Again with the Gruber link links… This is spot on. Not only is NBC’s new download service completely anti-user (Windows only, proprietary NBC-content-only player, un-skippable commercials, disappears after 7 days, etc. etc. ad nauseam infinitum), their contention that iTunes (or any MP3 player control software) promotes piracy by not completely locking out non-DRM content (so that if I made my own song on GarageBand or similar software, I wouldn’t be allowed to listen to it on my own MP3 player??!!), but they really think that *piracy* is their number one priority? No wonder they have so many crappy shows on the air.

Word to the unwise, NBC: the middleman isn’t iTunes, it’s YOU. The sooner creator content can be delivered directly to consumers, the better.

Number One Priority

And shame on Bill Carter for letting Gaspin’s statement regarding iTunes being a facilitator of music piracy stand undisputed. What Gaspin means is simply that iTunes allows you to play non-DRM-protected music and video. In the entertainment industry’s mind, anything that can be used to play bootlegged copyrighted material is deemed problematic. It’s despicable.
