And the combo punch. Tiny, light, and Linux based. Not Ubantu, and certainly not without hurdles of its own to face, but if this sells well, adding in Android on the mobile front, and open source is really gunning for Windows on all consumer fronts.

Over on Unwired Wil was lucky enough to get his hands on the new Eee PC from Asus - which is hotly anticipated to be the next geek ‘must-have’.
The future really is mobile (be it portable devices or cloud environments that port between devices) and this is (along with iPhone, Android, and some other things) are the transitional devices.

The overall verdict is fairly unanimous: the device’s keyboard is a bit cramped, but in terms of price, performance, and features the Eee PC hits the trifecta. Indeed, Asus appears to have gotten so many things right with the Eee PC that it could be a game-changer in the mobile market, in terms of both hardware and software. Instead of rehashing the reviews, which you can read on your own, let me draw a few lessons from the Eee PC launch that I think are important for the mobile space going into 2008.
